#245-05-Kongo-Byoei Moritaka

 

This famous family dates back to the Kamakura period. the Moritaka family of Smiths provide us with a history of 27 generations continues to the present day without interuption.

These swords are famous by their association with the warrior monks of Chikuzen province who fought in the battle against the invading Mongols under the command of the Mongol leader Kubla Khan.

This sword is an excellent example of the warrior monk swords and is approximately 675 years old and in excellent condition. It is documented with Hozon papers of the sword museum in Tokyo, Japan. This is one of the rare signed special order blades. The fittings on the Koshirae are signed Akiyoshi.
